Hello all,

So I've been going through a like/hate relationship (never quite got to "love") with my Pro-ject Debut III (subject of another post. Thanks for all those who have chimed in).And a lot of what I hear is that it's just simply not a good "rock music" turntable, but is instead tuned more for classical, etc. Playback is actually a little too bright, and seems to even overload during loud passages, even after being set up properly and paired with a decent phono stage (Pro-ject phono box). Maybe that's part of the behavior that makes it not good for rock?So for ~$500 (new or used, with cart would be optimal) what would you buy to listen to rock music on? I've heard some suggestions of a Technics 1200, and others that think that's the worst idea out there.

Any thoughts?
